Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: What is DTF printing, and how does it work?

A: DTF means Direct To Film, a technique that sees a design directly printed onto a film and then transferred onto a T-shirt. The nature of the T-shirt (cotton, polyester, or blends) is immaterial as they will work with white ink regardless of their particular color.

Q2: What file formats do you accept for custom DTF printing designs?

A: Vector artwork such as PDF or AI are the preferred formats, though PNG can be accepted with a minimum of 300 DPI and a transparent background.

Q3: What is the turnaround time for DTF printing orders?

A: The turnaround time for DTF printing orders is extremely quick. The artwork you have supplied is ready to be printed; it will be printed on the same business day the order is made, provided it is placed by 2 pm EST. After that time, it will be printed the following day and handed over to UPS. Shipping times may vary.

Q4: What is the minimum order quantity for custom DTF transfers or DTF printed shirts?

A: There is no minimum order for custom DTF transfers or DTF printed shirts with Quick Transfers. Even just one order will be treated the same as any other.

Q5: What kinds of fabrics are suitable for DTF printing?

A: Cotton is generally seen as the best fabric for DTF printing, but polyester or a blend of cotton and polyester are both suitable for DTF printing.

Q6: What fabrics can I use with DTF transfers?

A: DTF (direct-to-film) transfers are most effective on synthetic fabrics like polyester and polyester blends. They also work well on cotton and cotton/polyester blends. For the best results, ensure the fabric has a smooth surface.

Q7: How do I apply DTF transfers to garments?

A: To apply DTF transfers, preheat your heat press to 330°F (165°C). Place the garment on the press and pre-press it for 5-10 seconds to remove moisture and wrinkles. Position the DTF transfer on the garment, then cover it with a Teflon sheet or parchment paper. Press the transfer for 15-20 seconds with firm pressure. Once done, peel the transfer film off while it is still warm to achieve a smooth finish.

Q8: Can these transfers be used on both light and dark fabrics?

A: Yes, DTF transfers are versatile and can be applied to both light and dark fabrics. However, colors may appear differently on dark fabrics compared to light ones. It’s advisable to test on a sample piece if you’re unsure.

Q9: Can I order a custom size for my DTF transfer?

A: Certainly! Quick Transfers provides custom sizing options to meet your needs. When placing your order, simply provide the dimensions you require, and we will prepare the transfer accordingly.

Q10: Can I apply these transfers to any type of fabric?

A: DTF transfers are compatible with a variety of fabrics, but they work best on those mentioned earlier, such as polyester and cotton blends. It’s important to avoid fabrics with high stretch or rough textures, as these can affect the adhesion and appearance of the transfer.
